More convenience in local transport: three major infrastructure projects successfully completed in the VRR area
================================================================================================================

 VRR is continuously investing in a modern, barrier-free and future-proof infrastructure for buses and trains. Three projects have now been completed: New bus stations have been opened in Remscheid and Mönchengladbach. Passengers from Wanne-Eickel can look forward to a modernised main station. All three locations show what attractive mobility looks like in the VRR region.

 New Remscheid central bus station: comfortable, barrier-free and future-proof
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

At the **Friedrich-Ebert-Platz in Remscheid**, the new central bus station (ZOB) was officially opened. The modern facility now offers passengers **barrier-free access, digital information systems and modern, spacious waiting areas** that make it easier to change between bus routes.

"The conversion took place during ongoing operations - that was a major challenge for everyone involved," says Nikolas Child, project manager at VRR. "The result is impressive: the new ZOB is more efficient, more functional and barrier-free - all in the interests of passengers."

VRR supported the project of [**Remscheid public utilities**](https://www.stadtwerke-remscheid.de/) and other partners with **3.4 million euros** in accordance with § 12 ÖPNVG NRW.

The company STRABAG, which carried out the construction work, has summarised the **transformation** of Friedrich-Ebert-Platz in a **video**. [**Click now and watch the video!**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnUiRiR8REA)

 Wanne-Eickel main station: all-round refurbishment completed
------------------------------------------------------------

The [**Deutsche Bahn**](https://www.bahn.de/) **(DB)**, together with the VRR, has modernised the **Wanne-Eickel** modernised. As part of the **Modernisation Offensive 3 (MOF 3)**, around **25 million euros** were invested in the renovation of the station.

All **four platforms were refurbished**, the equipment modernised and a new, bright subway created. New **benches**, **weather shelters** and a **guidance system for the blind** improve comfort and orientation.

"With projects like this, we are strengthening the infrastructure and promoting attractive, barrier-free mobility for all passengers," says [**Oliver Wittke**](https://www.vrr.de/en/vrr/an-overview/#c246852) Spokesman of the VRR Executive Board. Mönchengladbach: Bus station surprises with a special atmosphere in the evening
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

**Mönchengladbach** now also has a new central bus station. After more than 20 years, the facility at **Europaplatz** has been extensively modernised and adapted to today's standards.

The new bus station has **17 stops for articulated buses**, **nine for single buses**, two spacious waiting areas, **ten new bus shelters** and **25 digital displays** with real-time information. Extensive weather protection and green roof areas further enhance the quality of the journey and create **space to take a deep breath**. A particular highlight for all passengers is the special atmosphere in the evening thanks to a **roof with around 2,800 LED lights** that cast the ZOB in a particularly beautiful light.

With **4.97 million euros in funding** according to § 12 ÖPNVG NRW, the VRR supported the [**NEW Group**](https://www.new.de/) with the barrier-free new building.
