Travel tips for Iron Maiden fans and Smag Sundance Festival
Two big events, two days, two cities: British heavy metal band Iron Maiden will be rocking Gelsenkirchen on July 11, 2025. To make sure your journey to the VELTINS-Arena goes smoothly, we have a few important things to know in Gelsenkirchen, while the Smag Sundance Festival is taking place on July 12 at Seaside Beach in Essen. So that you can enjoy both events stress-free, here are the most important tips for you.on how to get there by bus and train.
Iron Maiden - VELTINS-Arena, Gelsenkirchen (11 July 2025)
A high volume of traffic is expected around the VELTINS-Arena on the day of the event. We therefore recommend that all concert-goers use public transport and plan their journey as early as possible.

Smag Sundance Festival - Seaside Beach, Essen (12 July 2025)
The Saturday of the festival coincides with construction work on the S6 S-Bahn line. Instead of the regular S-Bahn trains, rail replacement buses (SEV) will be running. These will stop near the original "Hügel" stop , above the car park at the regatta tower on Lake Baldeney.
Important information about SEV on the day of the event:
- On 12 July, the SEV will be increased from 17:30. Instead of every 30 minutes, buses will run every 10 minutes between Essen main station and the Hügel stop.
