The trade union Ver.di has called for warning strikes as part of the current wage negotiations in the public sector.
Background information
Around Düsseldorf: From Monday, 10 March 2025, up to and including Wednesday, 12 March,Rheinbahn employees will be on strike. According to the trade union Verdi, there maybe disruptions until Thursday.
There are already problems with local transport in Mülheim and Essen. As the workshops are on strike, vehicles cannot be serviced, which will lead to further cancellations. The Ruhrbahn will be on strike all day on Wednesday 12 March from the start of operations until the end.
There are already fewer buses than planned in Dorsten today. On Wednesday, traffic there as well as in Haltern and other parts of the Recklinghausen district is expected to come to a complete standstill. The transport company Vestische expects all buses to remain in the depot.
BOGESTRA in Bochum and Gelsenkirchen and DSW21 in Dortmund have also announced strike action for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Passengers should inform themselves in advance about alternative connections and, if possible, switch to other means of transport.
The strike is expected to cause considerable disruption to bus, tram and underground services in the cities affected.
S-Bahn strike: restrictions on the S 28 line
The S 28 line will be on strike all day from Monday to Wednesday. Other RE, RB and S-Bahn lines are not affected.
Background: Why is there a strike?
Collective bargaining for the federal and local public services is currently in full swing. After the first round of negotiations on 24 January and the second round on 17 and 18 February failed to produce any results, Verdi has announced further warning strikes throughout Germany, which will also affect local public transport in NRW.
The third round of negotiations is scheduled to take place in Potsdam from 14 to 16 March 2025. According to media reports, further strikes can be expected until then.
