Zukunftsnetz Mobilität NRW is co-founder of the #sicherimStraßenverkehr initiative

Under the leadership of the Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia has launched an initiative to improve road safety. The aim? To pursue the "Vision Zero", according to which no one should be killed or seriously injured in road traffic, and to reduce the number of road accidents. The idea behind the campaign is to work together as a network to strengthen road safety in NRW and bring road safety work together under one roof.

NRW Interior Minister Herbert Reul and Transport Minister Oliver Krischer present certificate of accession to the NRW Future Mobility Network

NRW Interior Minister Herbert Reul and Transport Minister Oliver Krischer officially launched the new "NRW Initiative - #sicherimStraßenverkehr" in Herne on Friday, 4 October 2024 and presented the network partners, including Zukunftsnetz Mobilität NRW (ZNM), with their membership certificates. Our colleague and Head of the Rhine-Ruhr Coordination Centre of Zukunftsnetz Mobilität NRW, Michael Zyweck, accepted the certificate on behalf of the network.

"As a partner of the new initiative, we at Zukunftsnetz Mobilität NRW are committed to making the roads in our member municipalities safer. Our aim is to develop measures in close cooperation with the cities, districts and municipalities in order to reduce accidents and better protect all road users, whether pedestrians, cyclists or motorists. Road safety must become a priority so that we can create safe and liveable cities - for today and for future generations," emphasises Michael Zyweck.

What's next?
The 24 partner organisations want to meet annually and jointly determine the focus for the coming year. This year, the focus will be on safe journeys to school. This year's kick-off event took place at a school in Herne. At the same time, there was a day of action for schoolchildren with various hands-on activities on road safety. In 2025, the focus will be on pedestrian safety.
