Watch out carnival revellers: Take a relaxed train journey to Cologne and Düsseldorf for carnival
The new carnival season starts in Cologne and Düsseldorf on 11 November 2025. Thousands of revellers will celebrate the start of the fifth season on this day. The Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (VRR) and go.Rheinland have ordered additional trains so that all carnival enthusiasts from the VRR area can travel on time and in comfort.
Special trains between Essen, Düsseldorf and Cologne
The transport company TRI Train Rental GmbH (TRI) is offering a total of 32 additional journeys on 11 November. Two trains will leave Essen at 07:43 and 08:43 in the morning, stop in Duisburg and Düsseldorf, among other places, and arrive at Cologne Central Station at 08:44 and 09:45.
From 09:15, special trains will run hourly between Cologne Central Station and Düsseldorf Central Station. The last additional return journeys to Düsseldorf depart from Cologne South at 22:07 and 23:07. So you can relax on your journey home after a long day at the carnival.
