Extensive construction work from August 2025
In summer 2025, extensive construction work will be carried out on several sections of track in the VRR area, which will restrict train services. Passengers travelling on the RE 4, RE 7, RE 13, RE 47, RE 49, RB 48, S 1, S 7, S 8, S 9 and S 28 lines will be affected by the construction work.
The details are given below:
Friday, 22 August (21:45) to Monday, 25 August (12:15) and Friday, 29 August (21:45) to Monday, 1 September (12:15):
Construction work on the regional rail network from Friday, August 22 (9:45 p.m.) to Monday, August 25 (12:15 p.m.) and from Friday, August 29 (9:45 p.m.) to Monday, September 1 (12:15 p.m.):
- Trains on the RE 4 line are cancelled between Düsseldorf Hbf and Wuppertal Hbf. Buses will run as rail replacement services between Düsseldorf Hbf and Düsseldorf-Gerresheim.
- Trains on the RE 7 line are cancelled between Köln Messe/Deutz and Hagen Hbf. Passengers should use the RB 48 line between Cologne and Solingen Hbf and the RE 4 and RE 13 lines between Wuppertal Hbf/Wuppertal Oberbarmen and Hagen Hbf. Buses will run between Solingen Hbf and Wuppertal-Oberbarmen as rail replacement services.
- Trains on the RE 13 line will be cancelled between Düsseldorf Hbf and Wuppertal Hbf. Buses will operate as rail replacement services.
- Trains on the RB 48 line are cancelled between Solingen Hbf and Wuppertal-Oberbarmen. Buses will run as rail replacement services.
- Trains on the S 7 line are cancelled between Wuppertal Hbf and Wuppertal-Oberbarmen. Buses will operate as rail replacement services.
- Trains on the S 8 line are cancelled between Haan-Gruiten and Wuppertal-Oberbarmen. Buses will operate as rail replacement services.
- Trains on the S 9 line are cancelled between Velbert-Langenberg and Wuppertal-Oberbarmen. Buses will operate as rail replacement services.
- Trains on the S 28 line are cancelled between Mettmann Stadtwald and Wuppertal Hbf. Buses will operate as rail replacement services.
Monday, 25 August (12:00) to Friday, 29 August (21:40):
Construction work on the regional rail network from Monday, August 25 (12:00 p.m.) to Friday, August 29 (9:40 p.m.):
- Trains on the RE 49 line are cancelled between Wuppertal-Vohwinkel and Wuppertal Hbf. Buses will run as rail replacement services.
- The trains on the S 7 line between Wuppertal main station and Wuppertal-Oberbarmen are cancelled. Buses will operate as rail replacement services.
- Trains on the S 8 line in the direction of Mönchengladbach are cancelled at min. 28 from Wuppertal-Oberbarmen to Wuppertal-Steinbeck. Trains with final destination Wuppertal-Oberbarmen are already cancelled from Wuppertal-Steinbeck. The other journeys run continuously. Individual journeys will also depart earlier at all stops. Buses will operate as rail replacement services.
- Trains on the S 9 line are cancelled between Wuppertal-Vohwinkel and Wuppertal-Oberbarmen. Buses will operate as rail replacement services.
- Trains on the S 28 line are cancelled between Mettmann Stadtwald and Wuppertal Hbf. Buses will operate as rail replacement services.
Further construction measures
Line S 1, RE 47 - route between Düsseldorf and Solingen
Friday, 02.05.2025 (21:00) until Friday 11.12.2025 (21:00)
- There will be restrictions on train services on the S1 and RE 47 lines between Düsseldorf and Solingen.
- Replacement buses will run with all stops on the S1 between Düsseldorf and Solingen. In addition, an express bus(RE 47) will run between Düsseldorf and Solingen without intermediate stops.

The timetable changes are included in the VRR and DB online timetable information before the start of the construction work.
Tickets are not available on the buses. Tickets for buses and trains can be purchased online via the app or at the stations (not at the bus stops) from the ticket machines or in the customer centres.
