More space in the trains on the Haard axis

Commuters can rejoice: there will soon be more seats on the RE 2 line between Düsseldorf, Essen, Münster and Osnabrück. Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (VRR), Nahverkehr Westfalen-Lippe (NWL) and Landesnahverkehrsgesellschaft Niedersachsen mbH (LNVG) are adapting the carriages to actual demand.

More space for 2nd class

In the double-decker trains, part of 1st class will be used as 2nd class in future. This will create more seats for the large number of passengers travelling in 2nd class every day. The reason for the adjustment is that fewer and fewer people are using 1st class, while demand in 2nd class has risen sharply. In future, more travellers will benefit from additional, comfortable seating - at no extra charge.

1st class is here to stay

1st class will be retained. In future, it will be located in the carriages directly next to the locomotive. Deutsche Bahn will install the new signage by the timetable change in mid-December. This will also affect the RE 42 line between Essen and Münster, so that 1st class will be located next to the locomotive on all double-decker trains.

Comfort remains - only the name changes

And another little bonus: The existing 1st class seats will be retained. This means that in future you will sit in the declassified upper decks just as comfortably as before in 1st class.
