Transitional arrangements for VRR tickets at the turn of the year 2025/2026

The VRR fare structure will change at the turn of the year. We have created an overview for you so that you know how long tickets you have already purchased will remain valid and what transitional arrangements apply. The following information applies to journeys from January 1, 2026.

1. use of tickets already purchased

The following tickets from the VRR tariff will be sold until 31 December 2025 (midnight) and can be used beyond this date:

How long can I still use the tickets with the price from 2025?

If you have purchased the tickets in advance, you can still use them for your journeys until the end of service on 31 March 2026.

What does close of service mean?

  • In rail transport (e.g. DB and other railway companies), the operating day ends at 3.00 a.m. on the following day.
  • Otherwise, the start of the night-time shutdown or the end of the NachtExpress journeys on the following day applies.

2. exchange of unused tickets

Unused or partially used tickets that you purchased between 1 January and 31 December 2025 can be exchanged until 31 December 2028.

How do I exchange an unused ticket?

  • Tickets can be exchanged at the transport company that sold them.
  • You only pay the price difference to the new ticket.
  • The difference will be rounded to 5 cents.
  • There is no additional processing fee.

3. validity of monthly passes

Monthly travelcards and associated surcharges at the old price for December 2025 are still valid until the end of service on 2 January 2026.

Monthly travelcards for January 2026 are only available at the new 2026 price level.
