Mobile stations - information for municipalities and districts

We support you in the planning, promotion and realisation of mobile stations. All information on funding opportunities and requirements can be found here.

We support you

In order to come closer to the goal of a network-wide network of mobile stations, we have worked with local authorities and transport companies to create a VRR-wide concept and define minimum equipment for mobile stations. This concept provides profiles for 630 potential mobile stations at public transport stops, which contain recommendations for additional equipment elements based on a modular principle. Each municipality in the network area is included with at least one potential mobile station.

"Mobile stations of the future in the Rhenish mining area" funding programme

In order to strengthen the structure of the Rhenish mining district, the state of NRW, in cooperation with VRR and go.Rheinland, has set up a new funding programme with an application deadline of 30 June 2026 for the expansion of mobile stations. The two special-purpose associations VRR and go.Rheinland are responsible for the consultation and preliminary assessment, while the Cologne district government is the authorising authority.

As part of this funding, the measures must be completed by 31 December 2028 and the proof of use must be received by 30 March 2029. A total of EUR 30 million is available for the programme for municipalities in the Rhenish mining area (VRR area: city of Mönchengladbach and Rhine district of Neuss).

In addition to the general elements of a mobile station (e.g. stele, signposting, passenger information system, weather shelters), the funding includes all infrastructure and technical equipment such as P+R facilities, lockers, smart lockers or WLAN. In addition, funding for mobile stations in neighbourhoods is also expressly possible.

Sample documents for the tendering of planning services for mobile stations

In order to support local authorities in the planning process for the construction of mobile stations, VRR is providing Munter tender documents with the kind permission of go.Rheinland. This collection of documents covers all the essential work steps from the initial conceptual rough planning through to the supervision of the awarding of the construction work.

These documents are intended to provide assistance and therefore do not claim to be exhaustive. Responsibility for the award procedures lies exclusively with the respective local authorities. This also includes an examination under public procurement law of the extent to which the sample templates are suitable for the individual case in question. Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr AöR therefore assumes no responsibility for the awarding of the subsidised service.

If you have any queries regarding the implementation of mobile stations or would like to make use of the advisory service, please contact the Funding Management department using the following contact details: foerderdialog@vrr.de or, for municipalities in the Rhineland region, Mobilstationen-der-Zukunft@vrr.de
