Construction work between Duisburg and Essen: disruption on numerous services
From September 2026, work on overhead lines, platforms and bridges will take place in the Duisburg and Essen area. The project will be carried out in two distinct construction phases. There will be disruption to rail services. Depending on the line, passengers should expect diversions, cancelled stops, partial cancellations and rail replacement services. The good news: During this time, the RE 100 special service will provide additional connections between Essen and Düsseldorf Central Station.

Whilst construction work is underway, the newly introduced RE 100 service between Essen and Düsseldorf Central Station will provide an additional connection between the two major cities in the Ruhr region from Saturday 5 September to Saturday 30 October 2026. Find out more!
Roadworks between Düsseldorf and Cologne
Are you travelling between Düsseldorf and Cologne? The line will be completely closed from 21 August to 4 September 2026. After that, the S-Bahn line will remain closed until 4 December. Check here for details of your journey.
