Work continues on the Emmerich-Oberhausen railway line Lines affected: RE 5 (RRX), RE19, RE 44, RE 49

Due to the expansion of the railway line between Oberhausen and Emmerich, there will be partial closures, closures and timetable changes until 18 May 2026.

Work on the Emmerich - Oberhausen railway line

The work will be divided into full closure periods (no train traffic between Oberhausen Hbf and Wesel/Bocholt and between Emmerich and Arnhem Centraal) and partial closure periods (restricted train traffic).

The next full closure will begin on Monday, 20 April (5 a.m.) and will last four weeks.

On the lines RE 5 (RRX), RE 19, RE44 and RE49 there will be different replacement bus services during the various periods

Until the end of the construction work, there will be a new replacement platform/replacement station in Friedrichsfeld in the street "Am Industriepark". This will be used during the partial closures.

Commuter portal for carpooling

In addition to the rail replacement service with buses, it is also possible to offer or find car pools via the VRR commuter portal. Simply register for free at Nordrhein-Westfalen.Pendlerportal.de and save money and resources.

Further construction work on the route in 2026

After the end of the construction work, commuters on the RE 5 (RRX), RE 19, RE44 and RE49 lines can then expect a one-week closure in November 2026.

The timetable changes are included in the VRR and DB online timetable information before the start of the construction work.

Tickets are not available on the buses. Tickets for buses and trains can be purchased online via the app or at the stations (not at the bus stops) from the ticket machines or in the customer centres.
